Nationalism : TO UNITE or TO DIVIDE ???

Nation is supposed to unite the people from different lifestyles, cultures and background under the common roof of nationality. Like our National anthem, ''To bind hundreds of flowers and make a garland called Nepali." Considering goal of Nationality as uniting the people from different grounds, the definition of Nationalism can be said to be a feeling of unity among the people of different backgrounds. On contrary to that Nationalism has been a factor to divide the world since ages.

A lot of wars in the ancient time were result of nationalism with purpose of making the nation great. ''Mughals and Mauryas'', "Romans and Greek'' etc. all fought to make their empire great. Coming into the medieval age Britain, Spain, Portugal, France, Japan etc went on to colonize world promoting violence, racism, religional riots etc. Looking onto ours that was the time when kings used to capture other kingdoms. That was how our country happened to exist,  having a larger country means larger group of people getting united together that was the case. Still nationality was being the cause of diversion and violence contrary to its purpose.


Modern and Postmodern era have so far seen worst forms of nationalism. Nationalism has created division among countries instead of uniting them. World war I was among the first and dangerous consequences. English Rivalry with Germany had been the major cause of the world war. After WWI,  Germans were suffering hard of the consequences of the world war. The unjust treaties and whatever. Hitler came up with the propaganda of revenging Britishers and others which took him rise in the power. The nationalism Hitler brought was much harsher than that. His ANTI-SEMITIC agenda were catchy to christians of Germany. Germany suddenly had two nationalism then, anti semitic and judaistic nationalism. One nationality couldn't resist other. Communist ideology which believed nationality is materialistic started its slow rise at the moment. Slowly there was a kind of civil war between the two nationalities of the same nation. US intervention in this caused the birth of second world war, much disastrous than the previous one. The end of the world war resulted indepence  of many colonies and also the division of Germany. Korea, USSR, Sudan and many other countries divided due to creation of multi-nationalism.



In today's world , the postmodern era, the nationalism seems dangerous than ever. Even after the globalization, nationalism is still the cause of violence. Modi nationalism and Kashmir nationalism in India, Trump nationalism and Liberal Nationalism in USA, similar is the situation throughout the world.

In context of Nepal, the slow creation of anti Madhesh nationalism and Madhesh nationalism has come into play. The splitting nationality can create a huge misunderstanding among the people causing the division of country. Furthermore, it will result eternal clash between them after division like between the overnight created countries, INDIA and PAKISTAN.


The nationality issue has been causing more terror tha terrorism, creating more clashes and destroying humanity, which of course is never nice. If people don't stop getting much serious about nationalism and anti nationalism, world will be a hell of a place to reside in.
